The Simple Woman's Daybook

For today...August 31, 2011. It's hard to believe this is the last day of August!

Outside my is a beautiful day! Blue skies and about 80°.

I am thinking...about how fast summer has went by! Our new school year starts Tuesday. I will not miss the heat, but I will miss summer vacation!

I am hearing...Katie and Lee talking.

I am hoping and praying...that we will have no more hurricanes hit us this year.

I am thankful...that we were kept safe during hurricane Irene, and that we have our electricity and phone again. It's easy to take the basics for granted!

I am reading...mostly just the Bible right now.

From the kitchen...creamy chicken and rice for supper. I think I'll cook some sugar snap peas to go with it.

I am looking forward tomorrow. We had to cancel Sunday's service because of the storm. It always feels weird to miss a church service.

Around the house...mostly catching up on laundry! The next few days are supposed to be nice and dry, so I think I can get some clothes washed and hung.

A Scripture thought...I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.  The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. ~Psalm 18:1-2

A couple of pictures to share...Irene's aftermath in our neighborhood.

This is a house further down our street.
A tree fell and scraped the front of it.
I hope they don't have too much damage.

A tree down at our church, blocking one of the entrances.
The church is only about a mile from our house.

Please visit Peggy to read more daybooks.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope the rest of your week is great. :)

Take care,

  1. Looks like you all had powerful winds during the storm. I'm glad that none of you were hurt. The brethren surely have their work cut out for them in clearing that tree from the entrance to the church. At least I hope it's "the brethren" and not just your husband. ☺

  2. Hi Melanie...the summer has gone by so very quickly! I am looking forward to fall...hopefully some cooler weather! I always enjoy all that you share on your "Daybook" postings! Hope that your day is filled with simple pleasures! Hugs ♥ Teri

  3. Oh my, so glad those trees didn't cause any injuries! They were a close call!!

  4. So glad you were spared any damage or injuries! Have a wonderful evening!

  5. I am glad you didn't get hit -but I do hate that others got hit.

I did laundry this week - the whole house is clean.

And I can't believe August is gone too! Whew.

  6. Hey, Melanie~

Praising God that the hurricane wasn't as bad as they had originally predicted.

Glad to hear that you are all ok!

  7. Hi Melanie,
So glad that you came through the hurricane alright! Scary photos though.

I'm catching up on laundry today, and I'm almost done! Yay!

I hope you have a great weekend! :)

  8. Glad to hear you were spared Melanie, and you certainly do have a lot to be thankful for. Love your new header..too cute. Enjoy the weekend.
