The Simple Woman's Daybook

For today...January 11, 2011

Outside my window...cold and 32º. It has been snowing and sleeting today.

I am thinking...how nice it was to get out of school/work early today because of the bad weather. :)

I am thankful...for my family. I am very blessed.

From the kitchen...chili. It's so good on these cold winter days.

I am creating...a crocheted scarf.

I am going...to do some cleaning this evening.

I am reading...my 2011 Guideposts Devotional my sweet friend sent to me. Thank you, Sherry, I'm enjoying it. :)

I am hoping...for more snow!

One of my favorite things... a clean house!

I am hearing...the space heater running and a car driving by.

On my mind...the family of a dear friend who passed away from cancer this morning. This is a really hard time for them.

Scripture thought...
Psalm 121.
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

We talked about this at our ladies' meeting last night at church. It's so comforting to know that God is watching over us all the time!

A few plans for the rest of the week...Will be at work every day until three o'clock, church on Thursday and Sunday, grocery shopping, library

A picture I'm sharing this week...

This is the new bird feeder that my sweet husband and daughter gave to me for Christmas. I think it's so pretty! The birds finally found it the other day. There's a bird on the left side... I know it's hard to see, but it's there! :)

The daybook is hosted each week by The Simple Woman.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you're having a great week!

Take care,
Melanie

  3. Dear Melanie,
Our family loves Psalm 121. We walk in the afternoon (weather permitting ) and this is a favorite we like to recite from memory.
Your bird feeder is lovely. I love seeing the birds in my yard.
Enjoy the snow and a little time off from work my friend.

    God Bless,
    Virginia

  4. We are having our 3rd snow day off tomorrow. You might have another one tomorrow.

You are a busy gal. Loved the bird house and saw the bird - so pretty.

  5. I'm so sorry about your friend passing away! We don't like the snow. Yes, I do enjoy the beauty and take pictures, it also makes one be still for awhile. But we are old and then it's hard getting around. Just about a half hour ago it started snowing really bad, and the phone has been ringing ever since. I am the one who records all the church cancellations on the church prayer line. Everything for tonight is cancelled. Also Phil had tennis doubles tonight, and there was much calling back and forth to cancel that! How tiresome. There is indeed a bird on that pretty feeder, and after enlarging, I would hazard a guess that it is a black capped chickadee!

  6. Hi Melanie!

Your bird feeder is beautiful! I can see the bird too! So far we haven't had a snow day this week due to the snow. I'm hoping that maybe tomorrow but right now they will be going to school tomorrow.

    Stay warm!

  7. HI Melanie I love the guide post devotional books. I didn't know you did crochet, be sure to show us when you're all done! We get colder then 32 and it rarely snows at our level. I am pretty glad because we can drive for 20 minutes and be in the snow! I am scared to drive in it.
I Love the scripture you thought to share thanks for sharing your Simple Woman's Day Book! have a great week! big hugs

  9. We didn't get much snow here. I would like to have a little more, too. Just a little :)

So sorry to hear of your friend's passing. Hope the family is doing o.k.

Love your new birdfeeder. It is so pretty. I love to watch the birds. We had hundreds of robins in our yard this morning. Don't know why they were here--I thought they were supposed to be down further south by now!

Thank you for the anniversary wishes!

By the way, we loved the beef and biscuit casserole. Thank you for sharing the recipe!!

  10. Hi Melanie, I love chili also on cold, winter days. We finally were able to get out yesterday for some groceries and to run some errands. We have had snow on the ground FOREVER it seems. ha ha

I enjoy the Guideposts Devotionals also... I've read Guidepost magazine for years and years.

Love that birdfeeder.. Glad the birds have found it now...

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  11. Hello Sister Melanie. Love the lay-out of your post today. That's a great way to share - "I'm going to..." "I'm hearing...", etc.

Thanks for visiting my blog - and do come back. As you read there, I'm enjoying my retirement after over 50 years of being a credentialed minister in the Church of God. I pastored mostly in Tennessee, and served as missionary to Guyana, S. Amer and to Kenya, E. Africa + ten years of supervisory work in 32 countries of Africa. Yes, I miss it. But hasten to say I'm enjoying being retired and teaching a S.S. class in a local church.

  12. Dear Melanie,

I love your birdfeeder...how sweet that it was a gift from your husband and daughter. We love to feed the birds around here. Our favorite feeder is a John Deere feeder ...bright green!

I hope that you are going to post a picture of the scarf you are crocheting...I would love to see it!

Hope you all have a blessed week!
