For today...Monday, January 17, 2011
Outside my window...cold and 32°. We're supposed to get some rain, sleet, and snow today.
I am thinking...about having to postpone Katie's snow tubing trip again. She was supposed to go with her class last Tuesday, but we had to postpone it because of bad weather. This week's weather isn't cooperating either.
I am thankful...for my job. It helps support our family income and allows me to be with our daughter all day. :)
I am hearing...the washing machine. It's easy to take our appliances for granted, but how different our lives would be without them!
From the kitchen...baked ziti, asparagus, and garlic bread.
Around the house...I'm washing clothes and I need to wash some dishes. Is it just me, or does it seem that those two jobs never really have an end??
One of my favorite things...looking through old pictures, cards, and letters, and remembering good times. :)
On my mind...the phone call we received telling us that a dear family friend passed away yesterday morning. When I was a baby, he did my baby dedication. He also performed my wedding ceremony. He will be greatly missed. I hurt for his wife and children and grandchildren. It's sad to know we won't see him here anymore, but I'm happy to know he's in Heaven, and we'll get to see him again one day. This brings me to...
A Scripture thought...I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that Day, and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. -II Timothy 4:7-8
Can you tell I'm thinking a lot about Heaven today? :)
The daybook is hosted every week by The Simple Woman.
Love that verse! I'm so glad you have a job that allows you freedom to be with your family-what a blessing!
ReplyDeleteI love learning more and more ... hey I made the chicken and swiss cheese recipe and tomorrow is the beef and biscuit. It was delish.
ReplyDeleteThanks.

My heart and prayers are with you and your dear friend's family. I'm so sorry.
ReplyDeleteGod bless ya and have a peaceful day sweetie!!!
My washing machine has been going all day too!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about your loss.
I'm so very sorry to hear about your friend. We are to get bad weather tonight as well. Ice during the night. Hope you stay warm and safe, maybe school will be cancelled.
ReplyDeleteWe are supposed to get the rain, sleet, and snow here, too--I hope we don't. It's so nice that you are able to work and still be with Katie all day. That is a blessing!
ReplyDeleteDear Melanie...I always enjoy all that you share from your home in your "Daybook"...it does seem as there is always laundry to do and dishes in our home as well! Hugs ♥ Teri
ReplyDeleteHi Melanie, In reading your thoughts today, the one about looking through old pictures, cards and letters -- made me think about one of my passions. I am BIG into Genealogy (when I have time). I inherited lots of old pictures and letters from my mother--so I have had a blast putting together all kinds of albums with lots of family history... It's been time-consuming --but oh how much fun!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
You have an interesting blog, Melanie. What a great way to share your life with, and to encourage others. God Bless you as you grieve for your friend. I had the honor of eulogizing the man who married Frances and me last year. His widow lives on our street so we have the opportunity to encourage her now and then. He was a great pastor and missions leader in the Church of God.
ReplyDeleteHi Melanie,
ReplyDeleteI love that verse too, and the image you used. So sorry to read about your friend...I'll be praying for all of you.
I am thankful for my appliances too, though I don't always think about it. I do miss them when they break down though! :)
Have a great week, my friend.
Sorry to hear about your loss, I too lost a friend yesterday, we have worked together for 22 years, and I cannot believe he is gone, it really makes you realise that we do not know what tomorrow will bring... But knowing where we are going helps.
ReplyDeleteNo its not just you those two jobs never end....can be a pain sometimes lol.Great verse. Trish
ReplyDeleteHI Melanie that is wonderful you have job that allows you to be with your daughter all day. It would be hard to leave your kids I think. I never had to work until my kids were about 6 and 8, but my hours were while they were at school. That's pretty cold weather 32 degrees we get that for our lows at night and down into the 20's. I think that is to cold. Perhaps next week Katie can go on her snow trip. Have a super great week! big hugs
