For today...February 1, 2011.
Outside my window...Cloudy and 42°. Most of the snow we got last week has melted.
I am thinking...about Katie's birthday coming up on Monday. She'll be thirteen! The years seem to have just flown by! She's been wanting to have a skating party to celebrate, so that's what we're planning to do. She has a cold right now, so I'm hoping she'll be feeling better by then.
I am hearing...supper cooking on the stove, and Katie flipping pages while doing her homework. :)
I am thankful...that we have been safe and warm during all the snow and ice storms we've had the last few weeks. Our electricity has stayed on through every storm.
I am (still) reading...Promiseland and The Other Side of Jordan by Dawn Miller. I'm almost finished. It's been pretty good.
From the kitchen...roast beef hash and broccoli with cheese. It's a great way to use up Sunday's leftover roast! I'm going to make some peanut butter cookies after supper. Yum! :)
One of my favorite things...Baked apple pie scented candles. They smell so good!
A few plans for the rest of the week...work every day 'til 3, church on Thursday, groceries on Saturday, church on Sunday.
A Scripture thought...
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart, And lean not unto thine own understanding; In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct thy paths. -Proverbs 3:5-6
A picture I'm sharing this week...
My mom knows how much I like old family things, so she gave me this iron a couple of years ago. It belonged to my grandma. When my mom was a little girl, she used it to press her mom's quilt pieces. :)
Please visit Peggy to read more daybooks.
I hope you're all having a good week. :)
Take care,
Melanie
That is so sweet Melanie that your Mom gave you that cool old iron. Yes lots to be thankful for on that list. Cold here but I am not complaining!
ReplyDeleteDear Melanie,
ReplyDeleteYou must be so excited...your baby is almost a teenager! Where does the time go? My mom is going to be 88 on February 7th! I still can't believe how young she seems...after raising 10 children...she and my dad are still going strong!
I love the iron! I have one of my grandmother's that is the kind you put hot water inside...I'll have to take a picture of it sometime and show you...it is so special.
Please wish Miss Katie a very happy birthday from the coast of Maine!
Have a blessed week,
Laura
Dear Melanie...Wow...a teenager...where do the years go! I always love hearing all that you share from your "Daybook"...the antique iron is just too neat! I love old things as well! Thank you for sharing! Hugs to you! ♥ Teri
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of those irons too! I love family things.
ReplyDeleteYum, peanut butter cookies! I love apple scented candles too :) That iron is such a precious family treasure. Looks like your ice storms have headed my way!
ReplyDeleteThe hash and broccoli dishes look so good! I haven't had hash in a long time. Tell Katie Happy birthday, 13 is such a special one!! How cool to have that iron, I bet it's very heavy.
ReplyDeleteSo cold where you are and so warm and hot over here, it's the differences that make for interesting reading.
ReplyDeleteKatie is turning into a teenager! Whew. And I love the smell of apples too.
ReplyDeleteDid you get some snow yesterday?
Love,
sandie

We are still waiting for our snow to melt! In the almost 2 months, that I've been back in Kansas now, the snow has covered the ground for almost all of it!
ReplyDeleteI love those verses. We can read over them so quickly without really paying close attention, but those are SUCH special verses. God's ways are truly above ours, and so often, we need to not worry about whether we understand or not, and just trust God, through faith! He will direct our path, if we let Him!
I love, love, love your old iron. I would love to find one somewhere. (Better yet, I wish I had one from my family!) I hope Katie has a very happy birthday...I remember I had a skating party on my 13th birthday! Hope you have a nice weekend! Karen
