For today...Tuesday, February 15, 2011.
Outside my window...sunny and 46°. Yesterday the temperatures were up in the 60's!
I am thinking...about what a nice birthday Katie had. She had so much fun at her skating party. I would like to thank all of you who stopped by to wish her a happy birthday.
(Did you know that Laura Ingalls Wilder's birthday was February 7th?)
I'm also thinking about the nice Valentine's Day we had.
I always enjoy Valentine's Day at the school. I like to see all the sweet cards the students exchange. Many of them (especially the younger ones) give me cards too. I like their cute little handwriting.
However, by the end of the day, the kids are pretty full of sugar, so I'm always glad when three o'clock rolls around. :)
Valentine's Day at home was nice too, although it didn't really go according to what we had planned. My husband was going to make Eggplant Parmesan for us, but it was so windy outside that a tree fell onto a power line across the street, knocking out our electricity. So, we called Papa John's and had pizza for our Valentine's supper! It was OK, but I was really looking forward to what my husband was going to make. We had a candlelight supper though. :)
God bless the men and women who work on the power lines! They have a hard, dangerous job, and they're out in all sorts of weather!
I am thankful...for our generator! It has come in so handy over the years we've been here. All we have is electric heat, so when the power goes out, we're able to run little space heaters to keep warm, and we can plug in the refrigerator to keep our food from spoiling. It's one of those things I don't really think about until we need it!
I am reading...Sisters of the Quilt by Cindy Woodsmall. I'm really enjoying it!
From the kitchen...my husband is planning to make the Eggplant Parmesan we were going to have last night.
One of my favorite things...a gift of chocolate on Valentine's Day!♥ Actually, a gift of chocolate is great on ANY day! :)
A few plans for the rest of the week...work every day 'til 3, church on Thursday, church on Sunday
A picture I'm sharing this week...
My husband just finished making these shelves for me. I think he did a wonderful job! ♥
The white pitcher and the flowers on the top were part of what he gave me for Valentine's Day yesterday. We also used the oil lamp last night while the power was out.
My husband painted both of the pictures, and my mom painted the pine cones on the candle.
I am so pleased with how everything turned out. :)
Please visit Peggy to read more daybooks.
I hope you're all having a great week. :)
Take care,
~Melanie
Well, I guess that tree had to fall just so you two could have a romantic dinner by candlelight!! Now we are very interested in your generator. We have lost tons of money from having to throw out bad food in power outages. My husband has been wanting to buy a small generator just for the fridge only. He's been wanting to buy one for years. But we have no idea how powerful it needs to be to run the fridge. And if it takes gas, he doesn't know where to store it. Do you know how to tell what size to buy? Well, I had to double click on the shelves, wow!! Did he make the latticework as well? That is impressive! And those pinecones are really pretty, your mom is very talented. I love the picture of the barn, it reminds me of P.Buckley Moss.
ReplyDeleteHello Melanie!
ReplyDeleteI just love the shelf your husband made for you...what a blessing! And all the lovely things you have to display...I can tell they each have very sentimental value for you. Perhaps your best Valentines Day gift is your thoughtful, caring husband!
I, too, enjoy Cindy Woodsmall's books...in fact, I like reading most Amish fiction books! And I'm with you, girlfriend, chocolate on the menu...everyday!
Have a blessed evening!
Laura
Love those shelves they are really cute. I love lattice.
ReplyDeleteHi Melanie. We had pizza for dinner last night too :) A generator is a great idea. We have wanted to get one, but haven't yet. I am sure the candlelight dinner was special though :)
ReplyDeletePappa Johns, chcolate, hubby, and Katie - great Valentines Day - he did a great job on the shelves too.
ReplyDeleteLove,

Sounds like you had a very romantic evening with the power out. Attitude has to be positive when those inconveniences occur. Glad it went so well for you.
ReplyDeletethose shelves are so cute, Melanie; your hubby did a great job on them!! I bet the eggplant parmesan came out great today!! Does he share his recipe? I have always wanted to try it but never got "brave" enough to do so!

ReplyDeleteHi Mrs. Melanie,
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to stop and say hi. It must have been a little scary to have that tree take out the power line across the street from your house. Living on the coast of Maine we often get a lot of wind during winter storms, which often results in many trees falling over and many power outages. We love the CMP (Central Maine Power) people here.
We have been thinking about getting a generator for a while now. A couple of years ago we lost power for about 5 days and most of the food in our refrigerator spoiled. Having a generator just to keep the refrigerator going would be a great investment.
Hope you and your family had a great weekend.
Josh
Hi Melanie what a sweet photo of you kitty, I love what you're wearing it looks so soft. Sorry to hear about the vandalism at the school how terrible. Great news about the $1.00 bible I have a chronological bible, I just keep wondering who ever was so smart enough to put all the pieces of this puzzle together! I am reading mine right now. I had something else to say but forgot. Have a wonderful week! big hugs
