For today...Monday, February 28, 2011.
Outside my window...it has been a very rainy day. It's about 55° outside right now. My daffodils are starting to come up!
I am hearing...rain falling on the roof.
I am thinking...it's been two weeks since I posted anything!
What's been going on around here?
Katie had a great time on her snow tubing trip. She finally got to go after having it rescheduled twice because of bad weather.
She had a sleepover at our house with two girls from church. They had a great time! :)
We had some vandalism on our school building last week. So, my husband and I spent one of our afternoons scrubbing not-so-nice words off the building. Sadly, this is not the first time something like this has happened. We've ordered some motion lights, so we'll see if that helps.
One of our students lost his dad to cancer last week. It's hard to see a child lose a parent.
I am hoping...this week will be better than last week!
I am thankful...we have a tax refund coming back this year. It's very small, but at least we didn't have to pay!
I just finished reading...A Suitor for Jenny by Margaret Brownley. This was the first book I read by her. It was very good.
One of my favorite things...thrift stores! I was thinking the other day that I would like to have a chronological Bible, and I found one at Goodwill on Saturday for $1.00. Katie also found a few shirts. We had made a donation before we went in, and they gave us a 20% off coupon to use too! I love a good bargain. ♥
From the kitchen...Chicken Enchiladas. Katie has been asking me to make this for at least a week. The recipe is in my archives...very yummy!
A Scripture thought...
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
-Matthew 6:31-33
These verses are so comforting and encouraging. God has always taken care of me and my family, and I'm trusting Him to continue to do so!
A picture I'm sharing this week...
This is one of our two cats...Precious. That is probably not the best name for her because she can be very rotten and grumpy. Don't let that cute little face deceive you! :)
She likes to sleep in my computer chair, so I always have to shoo her off when I want to sit down. I took this picture on Saturday morning when she crawled up in my lap. This was one of her sweet moments...very rare and it didn't last long!
Please visit Peggy to read more daybooks.
I hope you all have a great week. Thanks for stopping by. :)
Take care,
~Melanie
Good to catch up and find out everything that's been going on with you! Too bad about the school, and you were the one who had to clean it off?? Why? A few years ago, our church was tagged by a gang, and it all had to be steam cleaned off, it was everywhere. We later had a huge picnic for the whole neighborhood, and had policemen there to discuss gang awareness.
ReplyDeleteHello Melanie!
ReplyDeleteIt is raining here too! It started as snow, again! But then turned to freezing rain...and now just rain. We still have TONS of snow though. I'm a bit jealous...daffodils are my favorite flower...and I don't expect to see mine until August! LOL
I'm so sorry that you had vandalism at your school. It is so difficult not to be angry and hurt...but we both know there must be a reason that someone would do this...to lash out in this way must mean that they are hurting and harboring anger. Hopefully your motion lights will help...and please know that I will be praying...both for your school and for the ones responsible.
Oh, a girl after my own heart, I LOVE thrift stores! We have both a salvation army and a goodwill. Salvation Army has much better deals around here...Samuel just got a coverall suit for summer to work under his project (he's building a truck from the ground up!) for $2.00! What a blessing! He usually gets so greasy and dirty working under his truck...this will definitely save on laundry. So glad that you were able to find that Bible. Wouldn't it be so fun to go thrifting together!
I've never read any of Margeret Brownley...I'll have to do a search at our library. I just took out Gayle Roper's "A Secret Identity" which is one of her Amish Farm Trilogy. I haven't started it yet...perhaps tonight!
Hope you and your family are having a blessed week!
Laura
Hi Mel :) How have ya'll been?
ReplyDeleteOh Melanie - I just love to hear about your week and what is going on.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your church and the boy's father. It is tough.
It's raining here too and we had hail today and tornado warnings.
And I love Goodwill myself. Got Andy a desk there once.
Love,
sandie
That's great your thrift store gives you a discount for making a donation.
ReplyDeleteI'd like that...
Good to hear from you again.
*Had to* click on your daybook link and meet another Melanie =) ...and so glad I did.
ReplyDeleteMay God bless you with a beautiful week ~ Enjoy those daffodils!
Hi Melanie. We had similare weather today here on LI. I love chicken enchiladas- will have to check out your recipe.
ReplyDeletethat is sad about the vandalism, Melanie, we have lots of graffiti here where I live now and the city announced last month they are closing down their services of cleaning it up so now business and home owners are responsible for it; sad because you just drive by walls and you can see painting after painting trying to cover the graffiti up. I told hubby someone needs to invent some type of wall that the minute paint hits it, the paint won't stick, could solve the graffiti problem I think.
ReplyDeletechicken enchiladas sound delicious!!
I haven't been in thrift stores in a bit but I like to go and get tee shirts and sweatshirts to wear around the home, why pay $30 for something when I can get it for much less money at a thrift store and help some type of organization to!
Cool that your daffodils are starting to bloom; spring is in the air!
betty
Hi Melanie, Hope you didn't get the flooding that we got here... Luckily, the rains quit and the water receded.
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the vandalism on your school building.. WHY do people think it's fun to do that???? GADS!!!
Glad you are getting a tax refund. We are getting one also. It's nice not to have to pay.
Sounds like you got some good deals at Goodwill... Thrift Stores can really save us some money.
Precious does look like a sweetie.... But--according to you, she must be similar to my cat, Jazz... My Jazz was not a very good pet--but she was a gorgeous cat.
Hugs,
Betsy
Dear Melanie...it is always so nice to read from your "Simple Woman's Daybook"...sounds like you have been keeping yourself busy! Our day looks to be a pretty one here in Kansas...the sun is shining and the temperature is 60 degrees...so a lovely day! Simple Blessings ♥ Teri

Hi Melanie,
ReplyDeleteI am your newest follower. I love your scripture for the day. God truly does take care of us if we have faith in Him. Thanks for sharing!
Hi, Melanie~
ReplyDeleteI loved your post! It is always nice to read "The Simple Woman's Daybook" when your friends participate!
Sorry to hear about your school. So many horrible things going on lately.
It rained here a few days ago but is now sunny and pretty. THANK YOU, GOD!
Enjoy your day, sweet friend!
Blessings~
Laura
It think it's warmer there than it is here :-) It's supposed to warm up a bit by the end of the week though.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your school, and the student who lost a parent. So hard, I'm sure.
We've started hitting the thrift stores too. I've enjoyed the chronological Bible too although it did take some getting used to for me in reading it.
Blessings,
Marcia
