The Simple Woman's Daybook

For today...March 28, 2011.

Outside my window...a pretty spring day. It's only in the 40s, but the sun is shining!

I am thinking...how fast the school year has went by. Our last quarter began today...only nine weeks left!

I am thankful...for my carpet shampooer. I plan on using it soon. Our light tan carpet always needs a good cleaning after winter.

From the kitchen...hamburger baked beans, macaroni and cheese, and steamed yellow squash.

One of my favorite things...Spring! I just love to look at all the beautiful flowers and trees.

I just finished reading...The Blue Bottle Club by Penelope J. Stokes. I liked it a lot!

Around the house...Katie has outgrown some of her clothes, so she and I have been getting them together to give to the younger girls at church. It's hard to believe Katie is almost as tall as me now.

A Scripture thought...And He said unto them,Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. -Luke 12:15

Aren't you glad that God does not determine our value by how many material things we have?

A couple of pictures to share today...This is what it looked like yesterday morning when we woke up! The snow was all gone by the time church was over, but it was so pretty.
It was very short-lived, so I think my flowers and bushes will be okay. :)

Please visit Peggy to read more daybooks.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Take care,
Melanie

  2. Your dinner sounds yummy! I need to take my carpet shampooer out soon. We have a tan rug in the living room and it is so dingy after the winter (and we did it in February!). So glad I don't have to rent one :)
    Have a wonderful week.

  3. Hi Melanie...yesterday...we too had snow covering our lawn and clinging to the trees...but our roadways were just wet! It is still cold here today...but hopefully warmer later in the week! I always enjoy all that you share on your "Daybook"...thanks for sharing! Hugs ♥ Teri

  4. Your last picture of the snowy daffodils is just like the one I posted today! Blue Bottle Club reminds me of the spiritual symbolism of the blue bottle trees here in the south, was it about that?

  5. Thank you for the thoughts! I read it through a second time--putting my own thoughts into the response. Our 4th quarter began today also. Thanks for the hugs!

  7. Wow, those nine weeks of school will fly by with end of the year activities, etc. It has gone by fast!! But then the "lazy days of summer!"

Spring snow is wonderful snow; doesn't hang around very much and is kind of pretty on the budding plants (as long as it doesn't kill the budding plants)

    yum on dinner!

I am so glad too that God looks at the heart and not at material possessions. I always say Jesus didn't have much here on earth because he knew how awesome heaven was and didn't need possessions here, good way to think about not accumulating treasures here but rather in heaven :)

  8. Hi, Melanie~

We had snow here yesterday morning and it was also gone by the time church was over. I absolutely LOVE the snow, but after getting teased with those beautiful days last week, I am ready for a new season to begin!

I loved your post and your pictures are again, BEAUTIFUL!

    Blessings~

  9. Hello Melanie!

It is sunny here today! Snow is almost gone...just a few piles left from the snow plows. They are talking about a possible storm this weekend...but we are not listening! The water is glistening...and I am ready for the outdoors! I am so looking forward to getting out into the garden...and spring clean-up...and fresh air...and all that goes with it!

Hard to believe that you are on your last quarter of school! Where does the time go? Daniel will have his masters degree in about 6 weeks! He is so excited...as are we! He's been preaching the last few weeks as a guest speaker at one of the local little churches on our peninsula...the folks have been so sweet to him! He would really love to go down to Liberty and get his doctorate...we'll just have to see what God has in mind!

Hope you are having a wonderful week. I haven't read that book yet...I'll have to see if our library carries it!
    With love,
    Laura

  10. Sounds like you've had a good day. Spring is soooo welcome here. God is good and has created a wonderful world for us. I'm prepaaring the S.S. lesson on Abraham for this coming Sunday and note that God told Abe he was going to give him every place where he set his feet down as his possession. God is a generous God, don't you think? ☺
