Melanie's Weather Blog

That's what I feel like I should call my blog lately with all the crazy weather we've been having!

The remnants of Tropical Storm Lee hit us with more than TWELVE inches of rain this week, and the worst of it came last night. This rain on top of what we'd already received from Hurricane Irene was just too much too fast and it flooded homes and washed out roads and bridges. We are so thankful and blessed that we are OK and our house did not flood!! We have a big ditch at the bottom of our back yard, and it was like a raging river. It helped to collect the runoff coming across our road.

Our first day of school was Tuesday. We were able to go all day Tuesday, but we had to close early Wednesday, and then close Thursday and today because of flooding. Hopefully we'll be able to get back to school on Monday.

I have not heard of any fatalities in our area, but there were several swiftwater rescues for people stranded in their vehicles. God bless all the rescue workers who have to be out in dangerous conditions.

Please keep us in your prayers. Our town only has one small road left that we can use right now to get in and out of our area. I hope it won't take too long to rebuild some of the roads that have been washed away.

Well, I hope our weather will calm down for us now, and I hope you all have a great weekend.
Thanks for stopping by.

Take care,
~Melanie

  1. I've been seeing this on the news and wondered about several of my blogging friends and how close it was to them. Thank you for the update. I'm glad your home didn't get flooded.
    Praying for all of you.

  3. Wow, Melanie that is a lot of rain for such a short time!! I can see why it is causing so much flooding and damage and accidents!! I'm also thinking the kids didn't mind getting a couple extra days without school (provided they were safe of course!). One can only hope the sun comes out tomorrow and starts drying up some of those massively big puddles/streams, etc you guys are dealing with!
