~Our Christmas Tree~

The first year my husband and I were married (1991), we went to a tree lot in town and bought a real tree. The following year we bought an artificial tree, and have used it ever since. It's been a very good tree, and is still in decent shape.

But, I've been wanting to cut our own tree for several years now. I have fond memories of our family doing that when I was little girl, and I thought Katie would enjoy it too. I found a tree farm a couple years ago and called them, but the prices were very high, so we decided against it. This year we had planned to put up our artificial tree again, but on Saturday morning I thought I'd try again to find another tree farm, so I searched the internet and found another one near us. I called them and was so happy to find their prices were much more reasonable. So, Saturday we went to the tree farm and cut our own Christmas tree. The weather was beautiful, and we had a great time. :)

We chose a Virginia Pine, and we are really enjoying it. It has a wonderful pine scent, and the branches are pretty sturdy, so they hold some of the heavier ornaments we have.

Here are some pictures of our day...

There were lots of pretty trees there, so it was
hard to choose!

Daddy's hard at work cutting it down.
I love Katie's sweet smile. :)

It was no easy task getting the tree on top of
the car!

So pretty♥

We have our nativity at the bottom,
and the tree skirt my mom made

Thanks for stopping by.
I hope you're all having a great week. :)

Take care,
~Melanie

  5. Love the tree, Melanie! You guys all did a great job decorating it! How fun too to go and pick it out and cut it down! We never did that with the kids, I know lots of people would go out into the woods to do that, that seemed a bit too adventurous for me, but you going to a tree farm sounds just right!! How neat too with the memories of the Christmas tree skirt made by your mom and great touch too with the Nativity set under the tree!

    Enjoy!

(love your blog look too for the holidays!)

  6. I'm glad you found a tree farm near your house! We have been going to the tree farm near us for years. They only charge $20 for any tree on the lot! I decided this year though that I'd go with the artificial I bought back when I was pregnant with my son. So we put up the artificial this year. I miss going to the tree farm though. I'm glad that you guys got to do it this year! It is so much fun isn't it!

    Hugs,
    Angela

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Your Christmas tree is so beautiful! How fun that you cut it down yourself. My family only did that once when I was in high school, but I still remember how much fun it was. I'm sure this will be a lovely memory for Katie, and all of you. Thank you for sharing your photos! :)

  19. Hi Melanie :-) Going to the woods and cutting our tree was a tradition when our children were little. Now as they have grown, we have our artificial tree. It's good to see the families still doing this the old fashion way. Y'all retrieved a nice one and made it a beauty. I love the nativity scene.
Thank you for visiting my blog :-)

  21. What a fun day. My younger kids don't remember having a real tree. My youngest daughter had so many allergy problems every time we brought one home, so when she was about 4, we decided fake was better for her health. I do miss the scent :)
    Precious memories for Katie too!
    Blessings,
    Marcia

  23. Dear Melanie,

This post brought tears to my eyes...family traditions are so special. We put our Nativity scene under our trees as well. And how special that you have a tree skirt made by your mama. Miss Katie is so beautiful...growing into such a sweet young lady. What a beautiful family you have.

    With love,
    Laura

  24. Thank you, Laura. Yes, I am very blessed and so thankful to the Lord for my sweet family. He is so good to us.
Katie said she wants to go and cut a tree every year now. I told her we'll just have to see...:)
My parents always put their nativity under their tree, so we do too. I think it's a fitting place for it.
Yes, my tree skirt is special to me. I remember us using it when I was growing up. I like homemade things like that.
I hope you and your family will have a nice Christmas.
So enjoy it when you stop by.♥
