The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY...Sunday, January 20th, 2013

Outside my window...the sun just went down, and it's about 50º. We haven't had any snow so far this winter. It's been in the forecast a couple of times, but the temperature just hasn't been cold enough. Our high on Tuesday is supposed to be 26º, but dry, so it doesn't look like we'll be getting snow anytime soon.

I am thinking...it's been a long time since I've done a Simple Woman's Daybook post. I really like the format, it just seems I have so little time to do it.

I am thankful...for so many things, but today I'm especially thankful for my health. Some of you know about my cousin's wife who has cancer. She's 37 and has 3 children that she home-schools.  She is continuing to fight, but the tumors aren't responding well to the chemo, and new ones have developed. She's been told that she has about two months left to live. It's been a very hard thing for the family. Please continue to pray for her. Her name is Tanya, and I know she and her family would appreciate your prayers. I am praying for a miracle!

In the kitchen...we had a crock-pot roast with carrots and potatoes. That is our usual Sunday meal. When we come home from church, it's all ready! It smells so good when we walk in the door.

I am wearing...my comfy clothes now that I'm home from church. :-)

I am creating...a red crocheted scarf...the yarn is so nice and soft. I wear scarves all the time in the winter. I don't like my neck to be cold. Brrrr!

I am going...nowhere today that I know of. We went to church this morning, and we only have a Sunday night service the first Sunday of each month. I am hoping for a nice relaxing evening at home.

I am wondering...about my blood work results. I've called the doctor, but they haven't called me back yet. Cholesterol just loves me for some reason! I'm hoping the medicine I've been on is helping to get the numbers down.

I am reading...Not by Might by Al Lacy. This is the fourth book of his that I've read, and I've really been enjoying it! I like to read while I'm on the treadmill...helps keep my mind occupied.

I am hoping...that we'll get some snow soon!

I am looking forward to...a day off tomorrow! We're out of school for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. :-)

Around the house...all the Christmas decorations are put away. We did that while we were on Christmas break. The house always looks a little bare after the decorations are gone. I still have a couple of snowmen set out, and I've put a few things out for Valentine's Day.
We cleaned our spare room a couple weeks ago, and gave away Katie's old bunk beds to one of our friends from church so she could use them for her grandchildren. I was happy to have them put to good use, and free up some much needed space!

A Scripture thought for today...Matthew 7:7-11- Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

I'm so thankful my heavenly Father knows what I need, and I can always trust Him to supply those needs!

One of my favorite things...well, actually two- singing and playing the piano. I've done both for about as long as I can remember, but I have this cough that is just hanging on from when we all had colds a few weeks ago. It's getting better EVER SO SLOWLY. There are several of us ladies at church who take turns leading the songs and playing the piano, and today it was my turn. I chose songs that the congregation knew well, so in case I started coughing at the piano, they could keep right on singing. Thankfully, I made it through all the songs without a coughing fit. I had my Ricolas sitting on the piano just in case...the honey herb ones are really good!

A few plans for the rest of the week...a Women's Ministries meeting tomorrow night at church...it's always an enjoyable time.
Our school's second semester ends this Friday, so the next couple of weeks I'll be busy making awards and averaging grades. We're also going to meet with a prospective student's family this Friday.

A picture to share...I put this on my Facebook page not too long ago, but I hadn't put it on here yet. This is one of Oreo's favorite places to be. He always seems to know when I'm reading my Bible. He makes a great lap desk...such a sweet kitty and lots of company. ♥

    1. Hi, Vicki,

Thank you for your prayers for Tanya. It's been just over a year since she was diagnosed with cancer. She's fought it so hard.

I am feeling better and the coughing spells aren't coming as often. I think I am finally on the mend.

Hope you have a great week too!

  8. Oh, dear friend... my heart is breaking for you and Tanya and her family. Our family will hold her up in our prayers...praying right along side you for a miracle. God is so good...and He will bring comfort through all of this, I know.

Also praying for your test results...hoping the cholesterol levels drop. I will also pray that you won't have to take the medicine for too long if you can get your levels down.

I can't believe that you haven't had any snow! It is snowing right now, as I write this, and the temps are supposed to go WAY WAY down tomorrow and Thursday here on the coast. Fortunately, it is pretty cold right now...so the snow is just a light fluffy powder...my favorite kind! (especially since Preston's plow truck broke!)

Wishing you all a most wonderful day, my friend!
    With love
    Laura

    1. Hi, Teri~
So nice to have you stop by. :)
I appreciate your prayers for Tanya. She's such a sweet person, and I'm just praying for a miracle.
My cholesterol was still too high, but it has come down some. I'm exercising more and being more careful about what I eat. I've started a food journal too, so I hope all these things will help. I have a strong family history of this sort of thing too.
Yes, our Oreo is such a sweetie.
Hope you have a good evening. We may get some snow over the next few days. :-)
Hugs to you, my sweet friend.♥

  12. Good Morning Melanie!

Just wanted to say "hi" and ask about Tanya...we've been keeping her and her family in our prayers.

Are you on vacation this week? The schools around here are. Of course, Sam gets no vacation...poor child! (Just ask him, LOL!)

Hope all is well with you and yours.
    Love,
    Laura

    1. Hi, Laura~

So nice to hear from you, my friend. :) I'm replying to you here because I'm not sure my last replies to you were going through.

Tanya is about the same. She is still very ill and the tumors aren't responding to treatment. She's lost a lot of weight due to sickness from all the treatments. I appreciate your prayers on her behalf. She and her family definitely need them.

My parents' neighbor (in the fire) I was telling you about passed away a few days ago. They had a double funeral for them on Monday. I feel so bad for their son, Eddie, who is my age. Eddie has a daughter just a bit younger than Katie. Up until recently, she had mostly lived with her grandparents. I'm sure this is hard on her too.

We only had Monday off this week. Our next vacation will be around Easter. This school year is just flying by! Poor Sam, yes I feel bad for him. I'm sure he has it really rough. :)

I hope you all are doing well. I haven't been visiting much lately or blogging much myself...just staying busy and have a lot on my mind right now...some of which I really can't publicly write on here. I'm so glad God is with us in the difficult times. He is such a loving Father and Friend.

Thanks for checking on me. Hugs to you. Hope you all are digging out from all the snow! We might get some more this weekend. :)

      Love,
      ~Melanie♥

    3. Oh, thank you, my sweet friend. I appreciate your care and concern so much.
It's so amazing to me how God can knit folks together though they've never even met...kindred spirits as I like to call them.
Yes, I know there are many who care and I'm so blessed to have such wonderful friends here.
You may just find an e-mail from me when I can get my thoughts all together.
Thank you so much for the encouraging reply on your blog this morning. I'm glad to hear Gary is having a good week...prayers continuing here.
Take care, and I hope you're having a great day.

      Melanie♥
