A Cool Idea for Hot Summer Days

Lawnmowers have come a long way! I know my husband is grateful! :-)

He tries to avoid mowing in the middle of the day, but in the summer, even the mornings and evenings are still quite warm and humid where we live.

When my husband goes out to mow,  this is what I do. I get our little cooler and put in a sports drink like Gatorade or Powerade, a water bottle, and a washcloth. (He really likes the washcloth to cool his face and neck). Then I add some ice and water to keep it all cold. He can carry the cooler to wherever he is, and everything is nice and cold when he's ready to take a break!

Such a simple idea, but he really appreciates it!

I hope you're all having a good day. Thanks for stopping by.

Take care,
~Melanie

Hello girl! I must say that you must have a much bigger yard then we do! That is nice what you do for him.

That is a good idea!

By the way, those type mowers are still made. They are called barrel mowers. I think they are used for giving very manicured cuts. Also, they're useful for people with very small lawns, such as my in-laws. They "lawn" is about the size of a small swimming pool. They just didn't need a power mower, and the barrel style cuts more evenly than a weed whacker would.

Dear Melanie ... when we first were married I wanted one of the reel mowers and my hubby bought a used one for $5.00 and I loved using it. It even had a grass catcher that attached to the back of it. It cut very well.

My hubby didn't care for it so much and he did most of the mowing so he went with a regular lawn mower and then a few years back he bought one of the cordless electric mowers that uses a small battery. It is very quiet and light weight and easy to push.

You have such a good idea for keeping your hubby as comfy as possible while mowing the lawn.

Weekend Blessings ♥ Teri

Hi, Teri~
So nice to have you stop by! :-)
Our next door neighbors have one of those old type of mowers. Sometimes I'll see one of the children mowing with it, but most of the time they use their riding mower. :-)
I think I would like one of the electric mowers. A friend of ours has one like that. I always have such a hard time pulling the cord to start our gasoline push-mower.
Hope you're having a great weekend! hugs♥

Hi, Laura!
I hope your day is going well so far! :-)
Yes, Lee appreciates the cooler very much. I only wish I'd thought of it sooner! It can get so hot and humid around here, any little cooling comfort is a help!
It's going to be hot today - already 93ยบ and not quite noon! This is one reason why summer is my least favorite season! hugs♥

What a wonderful, thoughtful way to bless your husband, Melanie! This is something I am definitely going to try to start doing for my husband. We have two acres, and bless his dear heart, it is so hard on him to keep it up. This will make things more bearable for him. I loved getting to know you today!! That is SO neat that you love WV mountains, too. I would love to discuss it more with you and keep in touch. Could you email me via my online contact form, then I will email you back? I couldn't find a way to contact you here. I hope to hear from you. God bless you and keep you in His care. So thankful to have found your blog. It is so good to meet those of kindred spirit and like mind!!

Hello, Cheryl!
So nice to have you visit today. :-)
My husband definitely appreciates the cooler! It's nice because I never know when he's wanting something to drink or when he's ready for a break. This way, it's up to him. If I hear the mower stop, I can talk with him while he's taking a break. I do help him mow sometimes, so it's nice for me to use too. :-)
I do know where Rocky Mount is! I haven't been there for years, but my husband and I used to pastor a church near there.
I will stop by and leave you a message so you'll have my e-mail. Looking forward to chatting with you! :-)
