February Hodgepodge

Just a few little snippets of what's been going on around here the last few weeks.
We celebrated Katie's birthday, and this is her cake, made by my husband. I thought that was so sweet of him. Yes, that is gum along the edges. :-) The little round things are edible chocolate candy pieces.

My husband drew my Valentine card this year. Isn't that something?

We had a huge wind storm here last weekend! It blew a tree across the road, and took cable and power lines with it!  I took this picture from my front window. What a mess! Thankfully, no one was on the road when the tree fell. That could have been really bad.

We got about 8 inches of snow Monday evening, and it's been too cold for the snow to melt. I took this picture of Lilly today. I thought she was so cute with her head stuck up in the air. She LOVES to play and roll in the snow. :-)

Katie leaves in the morning for a two-week missions trip to Uruguay. Please keep her (and me!) in your prayers.

I hope things are going well in your little part of the world. So glad you stopped by. :-)

Take care,
~Melanie

  1. Happy Birthday to Katie! Your husband did a great job on both the cake and your card. Our snow isn't getting much of a chance to melt either. I'm glad no one was hurt with that tree. I prayed for your daughter's mission trip and for you this morning. Have a great day :)

    1. Hi, Theresa! :-)
I thought my husband did a great job too. I told him last night that I was going to brag on him a little.
I have a cousin who lives in Boston. She said it is just crazy the amount of snow they have!
We're at a whopping 19ยบ right now at nearly 5 in the evening. Our snow isn't going anywhere at this rate!
Thank you so much for your prayers for Katie. I'm keeping track of her flight on flightaware.
Hope you're having a good week!

    1. Yes, Betty, my husband is a wonderful artist. He's painted pictures for me and drawn other things over the years. They're very special to me.
I heard from someone on the missions team a little while ago. They were talking to someone in the airport before their flight left, and someone had already received the Lord! I pray they will have a fruitful trip, and the Lord will bless it!
Yes, Lilly is SOOOO cute. She knows it too, and is such a ham!!! All our pets are so spoiled! We have only ourselves to blame. hehe :-)

    1. Thank you, Vicki. I told you my husband was going to make her cake, so I knew I had better post a picture of it! :-)
I love winter and snow, but these temps are a little too cold even for me.
Thankfully our pipes haven't frozen. We've been leaving the cold water dripping.
Thank you for your prayers for Katie. I'm keeping track of her flight on flightaware. That's such a neat site.
      Stay warm!!

    1. Yes, Ginny, Lilly is a happy dog! She just rolls around out there and has a big time! We got her from the pound when she was about 10 months old. That was in the summer of '09. I really think she knows how good she has it now and is appreciative of having a home.
My husband is a pastor, but he does paint and draw pretty pictures for gifts for family and friends. :-)

  6. I love the cake!! How sweet and thoughtful of your husband! And that dog! That is the cutest picture! I hope you are staying inside and enjoying the beautiful snow...from a distance. LOL! It sure is pretty, but not fun to drive in. We sure found that out last weekend! Praying hard for you and sweet Katie. She will be back home there with you safe and sound before you know it. God is with you both! He is faithful! Much love to you, sweet friend.

    1. Hi, Cheryl!

I thought it was sweet of Lee to make her cake too. She'll have that special memory. :-)

We had to take Katie to her drop off location for her trip this morning, then we went on and got new tires for the car. We had been slipping and sliding around in all this snow. Thankfully we have good tires now!

Lilly is such a mess! I just loved that picture. She looked so cute with her little nose stuck up in the air. :-)

Thank you so much for your prayers for Katie. I'm tracking her flight on flightaware. Praying the Lord will bless their trip. I heard from one of them a little while ago. They were talking to someone in the airport and the person accepted Christ right there!

Still praying for you, sweet friend.♥

  7. Good morning, Melanie~

What a beautiful cake (Happy belated birthday to Katie) and such an amazing card. Your husband is a very talented fellow.

Your dog is precious. We have two....I wouldn't trade them for anything!

We have had much snow and arctic temperatures here. I don't think I have ever wanted winter to end before. lol

Prayers going up for you and for your daughter during her missions trip.

    Blessings, sweet lady~

  8. Good morning, Laura! :-)

Yes, I have a very talented husband. He's painted and drawn some very pretty things for me over the years.♥

Lilly is SUCH a mess! We got her from the pound when she was about 10 months old. That was in '09. She was so scared at first. Whenever I'd pick up the broom, she would hide under the table. I guess she thought I was going to hit her with it. Now when we pick up something like that, she comes running to get her back scratched! :-)

I love Winter, but it's even a little too cold for me right now. It got down to -1 here last night!

Thank you for your prayers. Katie's group has arrived safely! :-)

Hope you have a great weekend!♥
