What a Friend We Have in Jesus

written by Joseph Scriven

What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged, take it to the Lord in prayer:
Can we find a friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness, Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer,
In His arms He'll take and shield thee; thou wilt find a solace there.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. - Isaiah 41:10

This has always been one of my favorite songs. I'm so glad Jesus is there for me all the time.
I hope you're all having a wonderful week. :)

Take care,
Melanie

  4. Melanie, I love the old songs from the old "Church Hymnal". As I heard Bill Gaither say recently, "Not because they are old but because they are so meaningful and so beautiful!" This song has to be one of the all-time favorites for those of us who appreciate this music.

  10. Hi Mrs. Melanie,
I just wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog. I don't get many visitors so I was very excited when I saw your comment.

This is one of my favorite hymns. It definitely has a great message. How often we try to handle trials on our own when the Lord wants us to be completely dependent upon Him.

Hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend,
    Joshua
